The RDI’s Alex Wilson spoke at a recent forum in Boston called  “Building a Resilient City: Preparing Our Buildings for Climate Change,” sponsored by A Better City.

From the report on the forum in EcoRInews:

Alex Wilson, president of Resilient Design Institute and executive editor of Environmental Building News, suggested other construction strategies. He said he believes all new construction in the United States should be built to the hurricane standards now used in Miami. He also recommended using flood-resistant building materials instead of ordinary carpeting and drywall.

  1. While it is important to have a High Performance Building, it is as important to have a safe building. Everyone is dependent on the performance of the First Responder if an incident should occur. Therefore the First Responder should have all of the critical data of the building with the incident available to them upon being dispatched to the incident. This is accomplished with a pre-incident plan program such as RealView LLC CommandScope. Numerous buildings across the country and Canada have been or are being pre-planned and the data is made available to the responders. It enables the responder to act with knowledge rather then by trial and error. It assures less property damage, fewer injuries and saves lives.
